For anyone considering purchasing an instrument from their online store I would recommend exercising caution. I received a guitar from the Levenshulme store and noticed a rattling noise coming from inside the instrument. I opened the back plate and discovered that whoever owned the guitar previously had messed up the installation of aftermarket pickups. They had cut the neck pickup's cables, cut the wiring on the selector switch, and chucked an unused pickup buss into the cavity (the cause of the rattling). The pickup buss was new (never affixed to the guitar) so the rattling would have been present when the guitar was 'thoroughly checked' (their words) in store. Somehow they managed to miss this rattling despite it being immediately obvious to me. Moreover, the issue with the neck pickup and selector switch should have noticed during testing. I doubt that any tests were carried out. I was actually quite shocked at the response I received from the store when I questioned why these faults went undetected. I was told that the staff lack the specialist knowledge required to detect faults of this nature. The staff apparently lack the expertise required to hear a rattling noise inside a guitar and conclude that there may be a fault :/ or plug a guitar into an amp and play test it.

To repair the electronics I will need to purchase an emg solderless cable at a cost of £20 (inc shipping) and pay to have the selector switch rewired by a tech (sadly I lack the ability to rewire it myself and have been quoted £40). I expressed my dissatisfaction that the guitar required repair and asked the store to consider a partial refund of £40 to cover the cost of the repair work. I was then offered £20, being told that a greater amount would put the store at a loss on the item. I couldn't understand why the store felt it was reasonable to break even on a faulty item at my expense? Why is it acceptable for the customer to be out of pocket for a mistake made by the store? As far as I'm concerned a legitimate business should be willing to take a small loss if it means making amends for an error. Moreover, I have reason to believe that the margin on the item is greater than they're claiming (if the typical pricing code used applies). I doubt that a sufficient refund to cover the cost of repair would see them incur a loss.

TL:DR - I was sold a faulty guitar. I was told by the store that this happened because the the staff lack the knowledge required to detect the simplest of faults. I was told that they could not cover the cost of repair because doing so would put them out of pocket (they were happy for me to pay for the repair and be out of pocket though). I will be very dubious about buying anything from them in the future.
